Seattle Part 1

My boyfriend is a huge Seattle Seahawks fan and since I met him, he has made numerous trips to Seattle each year to watch a game.  These trips used to be done with his brother, however since his brother got married he no longer goes and fortunately for me I have been able to replace him. So for the last three years I have made the trip to Seattle with my boyfriend at least once at the end of August.

Each year we leave Calgary on a Thursday afternoon and proceed to drive straight through to Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Once in Bonners Ferry we take a much needed rest stopping at the local Casino to gamble for an hour or so. I love to gamble and so does my boyfriend and the best part of the Bonners Ferry Casino is that almost all the machines are penny machines. Either we end up losing our $40 dollars or we end up winning a little bit of money, some times enough to cover the hotel room.

Once we have exhausted the casino we proceed on our journey to Spokane where we have dinner and spend the night because it is cheaper to stay in Spokane and then we are only a few hours away from Seattle.

Up to this point, the holiday is very structured and planned and I love knowing that we will hit our favorite spots on the drive to Seattle. I look forward to it every year.

Friday Morning we wake up early and drive to the nearest Starbucks to have breakfast and then head to Seattle. Occasionally we will stop by one of the highway fruit stands so we can buy peaches and cherries, which are amazing at that time of year.  By early afternoon, we are pulling into Seattle. Every time I drive in I think about how amazing it would be to live in Seattle,  even if just for a year.

Downtown Seattle is amazing. Not only do you get to see cruise ships coming and going but for those of you who enjoy watching deadliest catch you can catch a glimpse of their boats as well.  Pike place market has the famous fishmongers that have been showcased on the food network, and of course the very first Starbucks is right downtown by Pike place market.

Now I love my Starbucks, but I have never needed to have one so bad that I will wait in line at the first Starbucks for a drink. The line is always out the door and its only because it was the first one. There isn’t an issue finding a Starbucks in Seattle, walk half a block and you run into another one. However, everyone has to go to the first one and it is a zoo in there.

Every time I go I find something new that I love about Seattle, the nightlife, the culture, the crazy football fans, the restaurants, the shopping, it always gets better.
